Welcome

For some reason, you've arrived at Ironfrost.co.uk - the website of Kevin Prest. I grew up in Oldham, UK, and studied Physics at the University of Birmingham, but I moved to Beijing in 2005 and now I work for NHN China on the nciku online Chinese dictionary and language tools, which is really useful for anyone learning Chinese. We've also got the nciku Mobile Chinese-English / English-Chinese Dictionary (compatible with pretty much any mobile phone, not just high end devices like iPhones and Android) and the nciku Japanese Dictionary.

My most recent personal project has been making a mobile Chinese flashcard program for mobile phones, written in Java ME (j2me) - I made it for myself but I think that other Chinese learners might also be interested in it. In my modest opinion, I think it's quite useful - you can choose to go from English to Chinese, from Chinese to English, or to select randomly for each word; words can be shown in their initial order or in a random order; and the program can automatically remove cards that have been correctly answered a set number of times, either in total or consecutively.

The main reason for this site is FIDO - the Frontier Information Database Online. It's a pretty comprehensive guide to all the various star systems, ships and equipment in Frontier: Elite II. Some people might remember it as a feature of my old website, the Ironfrost Elite Network, which ran from 1999 to 2004 - if you're wondering what happened to the rest of the site, I decided that it didn't offer anything that other places like The Frontierverse didn't already cover.

I'm also an anime fan, and have been involved in various projects and events with other fans from the West Midlands area and around the world. These include a fansub of the Troubled Windows opening animation (someone also uploaded it to YouTube, which is probably a more convenient way to watch). My Anime Links page has information about my other anime-related activities and links to groups I am / have been involved with.

At some point, I plan to put photos up here too. Watch this space!
